Groundwork
One design and architecture system for every app, site, CLI, terminal UI, Omarchy panel and agent.
Groundwork is one way of designing and building everything in my repositories: how it looks, how it behaves and how it’s put together. Every app starts from the same base and picks its own theme, so the apps stay related without looking the same or looking generated.
It isn’t a web kit. The same design reaches web apps and sites, desktop apps, terminal apps and CLI output, Omarchy panels, Home Assistant cards and agents. Themes and tokens are written as data, and each target gets its own generator.
Neutral surfaces with a slight blue-grey tint, black and white primaries, and links as strong text. What every theme builds on.
Cool periwinkle, like glass and Tokyo Night. Large radii, faint borders and a glassy sheen.
Charcoal with surveyor's marker pink. Boxy, thick borders, bold weights and a marker bar.
Welsh slate's purple-grey with a mauve accent. Round, with pill buttons and soft borders.
A clear, bright blue on neutral charcoal. Medium radii, soft borders and pill chips.
Warm amber on near-black. Compact and table-first, with square badges.
Where to start
- Principles: the rules every part follows.
- Targets: how each kind of app gets the design.
- Foundations: colour roles, type, spacing, radius, motion and focus.
- Themes: Base and the five themes, each shown live in light, dark and Darker.
- Components: the first Lit component, running on the page.
